Planet Venus is a second planet from the sun. It is similar to the earth in its composition. It is one of the two planets,with Uranus,that rotates from east to west. It is also the nearest planet to the earth. It is visible from the earth with our naked eyes in its crescent phase. It's mass and composition are also called the sister or twin planet of the earth. Venus is the brightest object seen from the earth in the eastern sky in the morning and in the western sky in the evening after the sun and the moon. So, it is also called the brightest planet. Venus is also called the morning and evening star. The composition and surface of Venus is very hostile. It contains an atmosphere of carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and fumes of sulphuric acid. This produces a large amount of greenhouse effect and traps a tremendous amount of heat. Hence , it is hottest planet with a surface temperature of 480°C. An amazing feature of Venus is that it's day is longer than a year. The time taken by Venus to rotate in its own axis is 243 days but time taken by it to revolve round the sun is just 224.7 days . It has no satellites.
