Do you know secret of letter S
The secret you may don't have any idea about the letter S, i'm going to share with you. S is the 19th letter of the alphabet. It came to us through Latin, from the Greek letter Sigma. the earliest form of the letter may have been an ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic sign showing a tusk or tooth.
The Phoenician alphabet of about 1000 B.C. took the tooth symbol for its letter S. The Phoenicians wrote it as a W-shape , showing two sharp teeth next to each other. The Greek alphabet used the same sign for the sigma, or S, but turned it on its side. Some local Greek alphabets had a rounded form, and the Romans took this for the Latin S. The letter is same today. Small s is now written the same today. But until the last century there was another form of small s, the f-shaped ''long S''. It was based on a 6th century cursive (handwriting) letter. Many old books use the long S. S is about the eight most commonly used letter in English. Capital S stands for South and is the symbol for the element Sulfur.
